Q. When is folic acid needed?
A. This vital nutrient is needed through every stage of life but
is particularly important during periods of growth, such as pregnancy
and breast feeding as the body's requirement for folic acid increases.
If there is not sufficient folic acid in a woman's body when the
baby is in the womb there is an increased risk of the foetus developing
neural tube defects.
