Q. I have heard that folic acid is good for homocysteine
levels, what is homocysteine and why is it bad?
A. Homocysteine is a naturally occurring amino acid and like cholesterol
can cause damage to blood vessels in the head when elevated. Folic
acid can reduce the level of homocysteine, and help prevent the
build up of atherosclerosis (plaque). In addition, high homocysteine
levels may contribute to the development of osteoporosis.
